7 reasons never to date a boy from Texas

1. He’ll win you over with his folksy charm.

At one end, southerners may have the stigma of being labeled as unsophisticated, uneducated rubes. But even these good ol’ boys are portrayed with a certain kind of sex appeal only someone from a red state can pull off: opening doors for the ladies, making you swoon with our charming accents. Our style makes you feel like we have nothing to hide. How else was the world so quickly endeared to Matthew McConaughey?

2. He’s definitely a connoisseur and will make you one too.

He spends his days stuffing his face with some of the finest Tex-Mex and BBQ his state can offer. He knows where to find a good steak and match it with the perfect red wine. At the end of all of this, he’s ruined you to all other foods, and still manages to make you believe he’s done you a favor with a corny smile on his face.

3. He always comes back home.

More than likely, he grew up in Midland and once took a vacation in Abilene, because why would anyone leave the great state of Texas? Even if you do catch a Texan abroad, he’s always going to be drawn back home. To Texas, and to you.

4. He has more patience than you.

He’s had to navigate I-35 during OU Weekend. He’s listened to hippies in Austin explain the perfect way to cultivate cannabis to get the perfect high as he slowly inches away, preferring your company. He’s had to strike the perfect balance of political banter when at home with his conservative relatives; he might as well be an ambassador.

5. Pride is certainly is a deadly sin of choice.

After all, you don’t mess with Texas. Despite his flaws and occasional complaints, he’s proud of where he comes from and isn’t afraid to show it.

6. You’ll probably hate some of his music.

Country isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. He had the benefit of learning about Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson early on, while still listening to up and coming bands playing live in Austin.

7. He knows nothing and everything at the same time.

He had the benefits of the UT System, but never traveled to New York City (thank a certain salsa commercial for that). He can walk down the street in 100+ degree weather without thinking anything of it but struggles to dress properly during the winter. He can tell you how long it takes to drive to Waco but doesn’t have a clue how it measures in miles. Most importantly, he will always be able to tell the difference between the Texas flag and the flag of Chile.

Stephen Morin

Stephen Peter Morin (February 19, 1951 – March 13, 1985) was an American serial killer responsible for at least forty murders of young girls and women and 7 men in the 1970s and early 1980s. [1] Since Morin led a transient lifestyle and constantly moved around the country, the exact number of his victims is uncertain, but he's suspected of a total 48 violent crimes across the USA. In the early 1980s, he was pursued by the federal authorities.

The court found Morin sane and sentenced him to death by lethal injection. In 1985, he was executed at the Huntsville Unit.

Little is known about Morin's childhood. He was born on February 19, 1951, in Providence, Rhode Island, into a poor family. [2] He dropped out of school early, and in his teenage years, Morin began to use narcotics and delved into the criminal lifestyle.

In the mid-1960s, Morin was arrested in Florida for car theft. He was convicted and spent some time in an institution for juvenile delinquents. Freed in 1968, Morin left Florida and wandered around the country. For the majority of the 1970s, he resided in Northern California, specifically in the San Francisco Bay Area, constantly changing his places of residence and using various pseudonyms while committing crimes. For some time, he lived in San Francisco, where he worked as a car mechanic and builder. [3]

In the 1970s, Morin became addicted to drugs and led a transient lifestyle. In 1976, in San Francisco, Morin attacked a 14-year-old girl, abducting and then raping her. After this crime, he was put on a federal wanted list. During this period, he committed a series of murders of girls and young women in different states. In January 1980, he tried to abduct 19-year-old Susan Bilot in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survived by dodging him twice.

In June 1980, he abducted 20-year-old Cheryl Ann Daniel from Las Vegas, whose corpse was found in Utah six months later. Near Daniel's body, a wallet belonging to Morin was found, which allowed the investigators to connect these killings back to him. In the fall of 1981, he found himself in Colorado, where he killed 23-year-old Sheila Whalen in Golden. [4] After Whalen's murder, Morin moved to Texas, attacking 21-year-old Janna Bruce in Corpus Christi, whose strangled body was found on December 2nd.

On December 11, 1981, Morin attempted to abduct 21-year-old Carrie Ann Scott while attempting to steal her car. Initially, he said that he'd had no intentions to kill her, but claimed to have been overcome with something, and subsequently shot her in the parking lot of Maggie's Restaurant in San Antonio. After that, he abducted Margy Mayfield and held her hostage for 10+ hours in a car. [5] [6] [7]

Following Scott's murder, the motel in San Antonio where Morin had been staying for the past few days, was surrounded by the SAPD's SWAT team and searched. During the search, 32-year-old Sarah Clark, his accomplice, was arrested, and 23-year-old Pamela Jackson, another victim abducted on November 30th, was rescued. Several false IDs, credit cards and social security cards were found, leading to suspicions that Morin committed other murders in a multitude of states.

On the afternoon of December 12th, Stephen Morin was arrested at a bus station in Austin. [1] At the time of his arrest, he surrendered without resistance. [2] Upon arrival in Austin, Morin had released Mayfield. Despite his peaceful surrender, Morin refused to cooperate with investigators and claimed to be innocent.

Morin was charged with the murders of Carrie Ann Scott and Janna Bruce, since there was a lot of evidence supporting his guilt in those cases. After withdrawing his appeals and pleading guilty, he was convicted and sentenced to death in February 1984. [8] Later on, he was additionally convicted of killing Daniel, before being extradited to Colorado on charges of killing Sheila Whalen, for whose killing he was also sentenced to death at the end of 1984. Morin was also supposed to be later extradited to Utah to stand trial for other killings he supposedly committed there, but for reasons unknown, this never occurred. In total, Stephen Morin was investigated for 48 violent murders committed in the states of Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Washington, Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Texas, New York and California. [9] [10] [4] In Nevada alone, Morin was tested for involvement in 8 murders. [7] [3]

After his conviction, Morin converted to Christianity. His execution date was scheduled for March 1985. Shortly before this, the convicted stated that he did not want to appeal for a new trial or postpone the execution, [11] which conflicted with his lawyer David Goldstein, who filed a petition for a forensic examination on his client, since he showed signs of mental retardation. The application, however, was rejected. [2]

Morin was executed by lethal injection on the afternoon of March 13, 1985, at the Huntsville Unit in Texas, in the presence of his victims' relatives and his girlfriend. On the day of his execution, for his last meal, Morin ordered steak, baked potatoes, butter, green pea salad, banana pudding and coffee. [12] His final words were the following:

"Father, forgive these people for they know not what they do. Forgive them as you have forgiven me and I have forgiven them. Lord Jesus, I commit my soul to you."

Before his execution, Morin was described as being in a happy mood. Due to his history of drug abuse, the execution technicians were forced to probe both of Morin's arms and legs with needles for nearly 45 minutes before they found a suitable vein, a first-time occurrence at that time. [13] He was pronounced dead at 12:55 AM, becoming the sixth man to be executed by lethal injection in Texas since the method was introduced in 1982. [14] [2]

Is Travel Baseball Worth It?

So we’ve come to the biggest question: Is travel ball worth it?

If you want to improve your skills and have the best chance to play in college or the pros, travel baseball is the way to go. 20 Things You Should Never Do When You First Start Dating

The first stage of a relationship or courtship when people start dating is definitely the most important time of the relationship or courtship. It is natural to go on a few dates with someone before the courtship could be established.

These few dates actually determine how the relationship turns out. If one does something stupid during the date, the chances of its survival could fade away or disappear immediately.

While someone is excited that they have met someone new or are actually moving on to a new and exciting part of their lifetime, one has to make sure that they do not go too far ahead of themselves. There is nothing anyone can do about what they think on a new dating adventure. However, the goal is to keep any of these thoughts from coming out. Immediately the thoughts turn into actions, things could go horribly wrong.

Here are 20 Things You Should Never Do When You First Start Dating :

1. Brag or Lie

Never ever brag or lie. If you talk like you are everything in the world, you might risk the chances of having the relationship. When you lie, then you have to keep remembering the lie every time you meet your significant other. After very many dates, will you still be able to remember all your lies? It is good to avoid lying because when the other person eventually finds out the truth, your relationship or courtship will be in shambles.

2. Rush Things

One of the easiest ways to have a meaningful relationship is to let it grow gradually. Take your time and give yourselves time to want to be in the relationship. Avoid overcrowding the other person’s space, it could get them scared.

3. Play hard to get

You should not be easy, neither should you play very hard to get. It is advisable to get a middle ground between the two.

4. Pretend

Do not pretend to be someone or something that you are not, even if this thing is what the other person really likes. If this thing that you may try to be is the reason of the relationship, then there is no point of having the relationship at all.

5. Focus on money

Men tend to be cautious of women who spend a lot of money and expect to be treated like princesses. This applies to the women too. Avoid dwelling on money once you meet. If you go on a date, always offer to foot the bill or split it. Once one person notices that they tend to spend more money on you, it could raise a problem. If you cannot afford the expensive outings, find cheaper ones that will enable you to have a good time too.

6. Don’t Drink or smoke too much

There is nothing more unattractive than dating a chain smoker or a drinker. Too much drinking has different consequences. It could lead to violence which can cause problems in the relationship. If your partner does not like the cigarette smell as well, it could lead to a problem. Too much drinking increases the chances of losing your next life partner . These things could cause the relationship to end in its early stages.

7. Ask invasive questions

Know your boundaries. Avoid questions that could sound intimidating or embarrassing. Save some of these questions for after you have known your partner, if they are really necessary.

8. Constantly find flaws in your partner and telling him/her

As much as communication is important in a relationship, find a way to communicate in a civil manner. Find a balance to avoid sounding like you are constantly whining about everything. It could sound negative and put off the other person.

9. Be too intimate

Do not overstep the boundaries. A kiss on the first date can be too much. Be civil and avoid things that could send other signals.

10. Create drama

Avoid making minor niggles into major issues. If you have a problem about something, talk about it with your partner without causing too much drama especially in public. Men especially are not mind readers, they do not like making drama out of life. It is advisable to talk about issues in a good way with no quarreling or shouting.

11. Set crazy rules

We all know and seldom set rules about a relationship. If you have a rule you follow before you get into a courtship, you do not have to let the other person know. It could make them lose interest or think that you are crazy.

12. Get clingy or insecure

Most people can tolerate clingy people in the later stages of relationships. However, if these clingy signs start to show early, one can decide to run away. Constantly calling or texting in a day can become excessive and annoying.

13. Hold controversial topics

You wouldn’t want to turn every conversation you have into a debate about religions, beliefs or politics, now would you?

14. Stalk them on Facebook

These days most people’s reaction to meeting someone for the first time and getting to know their last name is immediately looking for them on Facebook and requesting to be their friend. Then people tend to stalk your pictures to find out details about the other person. This is wrong. Facebook is a social tool, it should not replace the old fashioned way of getting to know each other.

15. Get Intimate too soon

You need to build the relationship by becoming friends first then building the trust for each other. A relationship will change after making love together. Build a good foundation first for the relationship before you become intimate.

16. Follow them on twitter

While it could look like a good idea to follow the person you have started dating on twitter, it could look rushed. People do not tweet from the heart, and it could be easily misinterpreted.

17. Go to dates late constantly

Punctuality is a very important aspect in any courtship. If you arrive late, apologies to the other person. Avoid making up stupid reasons for your lateness especially if it’s recurrent.

18. Invade too much privacy

Nobody likes to feel like they are being investigated. You have many other things to talk about other than someone’s savings, salaries or past relationships.

19. Not appreciate your partner

It is good to always appreciate your partner with acts of kindness every time they do something nice for you. When one is not appreciated, they will not do small special things for you again.

20. Get too busy for the courtship

It takes time and effort for a relationship to work, so if one person is always busy working or hanging out with his/her friends, the relationship will suffer. Being too busy sends the message that you are not interested. If you do not have time for him/her, she/he will definitely not have time for you as well.

It may seem like a lot of work, but once the relationship is set and moving, nothing will make you happier.
